Campus Developments:
The Gardens
We are extremely proud of our beautiful campus. The first Head teacher at Northside, the late Mrs Dixon-Warren was passionate about gardening and creating an attractive, tranquil learning environment.
So, we continue to improve our campus and classrooms, and we are enjoying these most recent developments.
New Murals
Dr Andrew Eckerle, an accomplished American artist and past parent of our school, added to our wonderful variety of wall murals during the course of 2008. This is what Dr Eckerle had to say about his work.
“The three panels in the mural are influenced mainly by the art of young children. I have always been interested in the scribbling and mark making of kids. These three panels were an attempt use images like a heart, flowers and hands playing catch to symbolize a child's sense of play, innocence and freedom, while at the same time incorporating methods of working similar to that of a child.
I loved working on the mural during the school days. I was asked many questions by the children as they tried to figure out what in the world I was doing, and so when I heard many of them say in passing "I could do that" or "that looks like my little sister's drawing", I took it as a compliment. I hope that the families at Northside enjoy the mural and that it complements the other wonderful artwork already on display.”
The Perimeter Wall
The US Embassy has kindly donated the funds to develop a perimeter wall around the campus. The walkways that used to form the border along three sides of our campus have now been included into our school property.
We are thrilled with the extra space and will enjoy the added security provided by the wall. We are extremely grateful to the American Embassy for their ongoing support of Northside School.
Interactive Whiteboards
In the last year, 18 Interactive Whiteboards have been installed in classrooms. We are enjoying this technological development and our teachers and students are using it with growing confidence.
The IWB, when used effectively, can be a valuable tool to support teaching and learning. For an excerpt from an article written by one of our parents, in praise of this new development, please see Newsletter Issue 1, Term 2 2008.
Strategic Planning
The strategic Planning process is to be completed by April 2009. We look forward to sharing the strategic planning with the school community this year.
The school also remains involved in ongoing CIS work.
